Montessori Preschool & Transitional Kindergarten in Mission Viejo | Ages 3–6 Years

At Mission Montessori, our Primary Program—serving children (ages 3 to 6)—offers a joyful and purposeful foundation for lifelong learning. Rooted in the Montessori philosophy and guided by our Christian values, this mixed-age classroom supports children as they grow in independence, confidence, and curiosity.

Children remain in the same classroom for three years, allowing them to build strong relationships, deepen their learning, and transition naturally from preschool learners to confident kindergarten leaders.

A Prepared Environment that Fosters Independence
Step into a Montessori preschool classroom and you’ll find peaceful, engaged children working with focus and pride. Everything in the environment is thoughtfully prepared to encourage independence and meaningful activity.

At this stage, children often say, “I want to do it myself!”—and in Montessori, we not only allow it, we celebrate it. Whether watering plants, preparing a snack, or polishing a table, the child’s work is real, purposeful, and developmentally rich. These practical life activities help children develop coordination, responsibility, and a strong sense of belonging.

Learning Through Collaboration and Curiosity
Children are free to choose their work from carefully designed learning areas, allowing them to follow their interests and move at their own pace. You might see a 3-year-old practicing spooning exercises while a 5-year-old works with the Moveable Alphabet to build short vowel words alongside a younger classmate. In this collaborative environment, older children reinforce their learning by mentoring, while younger children are inspired and encouraged to take on new challenges.

Our Montessori-trained teachers act as keen observers and gentle guides—giving individual or small-group lessons, then stepping back to allow the child’s learning to unfold naturally.

A Rich and Balanced Curriculum
Our Montessori preschool and transitional kindergarten curriculum is hands-on, integrated, and developmentally tailored:

  • Practical Life: Activities like food preparation, dressing, and cleaning foster independence, concentration, and fine motor control.
  • Sensorial: Materials help children refine their senses and lay the groundwork for math and language skills.
  • Language: Children build phonetic awareness, expand vocabulary, and grow into confident readers and writers.
  • Mathematics: Children explore numbers, place value, and operations through tactile materials that support a deep conceptual understanding.
  • Cultural Studies (Geography, Science, Art & Music): Children explore the world through maps, landforms, nature study, art, music, and hands-on experiments.

Each lesson is presented individually or in small groups, meeting each child at their own level and allowing them to progress as they are ready.

Faith, Community, and Celebration
Our Christian foundation is gently woven into the day through grace before meals, music, stories, and the celebration of Christian holidays. Children are guided in kindness, compassion, and gratitude—values that reflect both our faith and the heart of the Montessori method.

We serve healthy, organic snacks and lunches prepared on site, supporting physical development and nurturing lifelong healthy habits.

A Joyful Journey from Preschool to Kindergarten Leader
Children typically spend three years in the Primary classroom, with the final year serving as a Montessori transitional or kindergarten experience. This third year is a powerful time of leadership and growth, as children take on new responsibilities, mentor younger classmates, and prepare with confidence for the next stage of their educational journey.

At Mission Montessori, we provide more than a preschool—we offer a loving, structured, and faith-centered community where children thrive as independent thinkers, compassionate friends, and joyful learners.
